Frequently asked questions
Below are answers to some of the more common questions we get asked
Q: Why should we chose you?
We know that you want a website developer who understands that you need results. We can create beautiful, modern websites with advanced functionality and a strong business focus.
Q: What else do you offer?
We can organise your domain names, host your website(s), drive visitors there and track them every step of the way so you know your website is working hard for you. We work with you every step of the way
Q: What platforms do you support?
Q: How long does it take to have a website designed?
The time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your business plan and our current client design schedule. Once you have completed a design brief and initial assessment we can give you an accurate development time frame.
Q: Do I need to know PHP to use WordPress?
No. You should be able to use WordPress through the user interface, without ever having to touch PHP.
The only time you would modify your WordPress website with PHP would be when integrating some of the plugins. There are a small number of plugins that still require manual edits to your files.
Q: What are the benefits of using an IT consultant?
The main advantage of using an external consultant to help you with your business problems rather than using your own team is that they can bring an objectivity to it that you can’t get from your own staff. It can be hard for companies to see where the problems are because they are too close to the situation. In some cases it may be that since something has always been done that way they may not realize that it is actually what is causing the problem. Having somebody from outside the company look at things can really help you to spot problem areas.
Q: What is WordPress?
WordPress is open source web software that you can install on your web server to create your website, blog, community or network. WordPress started out as a tool for blogging, but has evolved into a full-fledged Content Management System (CMS), capable of powering websites, networks and communities.
Q: Why Choose WordPress?
One of the principal advantages of WordPress is that you are in control. Unlike remote-hosted scripts such as Blogger and LiveJournal, you host WordPress on your own server. Installation is very simple, as is the configuration. Unlike other software programs, there are not a million files to chmod nor are there dozens of templates to edit just to get your site set up and looking the way you want.
Q: Can I update content myself?
YES you can. Your content can be added to a WordPress website in one of two formats: as a Page or as a Post. A page is for content that is not time-dependent eg. ‘About’ or ‘Contact’ pages. A post is for content that is time-relevant and is typically displayed in reverse-chronological order. Posts can have comments and an associated RSS feed. Examples of ‘post’-appropriate content would be ‘News’ or ‘Events’. Both Pages and Posts have associated titles and content and the Look and Feel of the website will not change between the two.
